Are you happy? Do you feel healthy? What effect do the people around you have on your mood? Do you feel calm?

There are so many questions like the above that I think are important to reflect upon in our everyday lives, you need to ensure that you check up on yourself because the only person who can change the way you think of feel, is you. That’s a bit of a scary thought to many of us because we all know that if you’re in a bad place or negative state of mind, it can often be difficult to get out of that rut.

There are so many factors which contribute to negative thinking and feelings – work, friends, finances, weather, family, body confidence, eating habits…the list goes on. The one thing that remains consistent throughout though, is you.

Not happy with your job? Speak to your line manager – explain what it is that’s getting you down, see if there’s a way you can work together to improve your mood within the workplace.

Your friends seem to bring your mood down? You have 2 options – raise the problem with them and work through it, or cut them out of your life – this depends on how long you’ve been feeling this way and if you have already tried to solve the issues then sometimes it is best for all parties to just accept that it’s time to part ways.

Struggling financially? I think we’ve all been there and the only way to get through it is know that it will get better, keep working at what you’re doing and persevere.

The weather can get us all down at times – I find that in the winter months especially, my mood is much lower and I think that’s largely due to the shorter hours of daylight that we get! Plan things for the weekends or your days off and if you are able to, book some time away for the next year to give you something to look forward to and work towards.

Family issues, I feel like fall under the same category as friends – regardless of whether they’re related to you by blood or not, if someone is putting you down and making your mood deteriorate they need to be cut out of your life. You will be better off, trust me.

Don’t have the most confidence in your body and feel bored of your eating habits? Follow some fitness pages on social media and do a daily 20-minute workout at home, and you can do the same with cooking (the following socials part…not sure doing a 20 minute workout with raw chicken would be so effective). There are so many free, and easily accessible outlets these days for you to change your lifestyle, there really is no excuse to not use them.

It’s so much easier to complain than just get on with life and the tough times, believe me – I am great at complaining about every minor detail. But sometimes you really do need to pick yourself up and realise it’s not all so bad and that actually there are so many things in your control, if you just make the conscious decision to, you could change the entire way you think.
